Forget Me Not Centre

Forget Me Not Centre

The Forget Me Not Centre at St John’s Hospice

The Forget Me Not Centre is a brand new purpose built facility at St John’s Hospice on Slyne Road in Lancaster. It will provide children, young people and whole family bereavement therapy.

What is the purpose of the Forget Me Not Centre?

This centre is needed because a project carried out by Lancaster University, together with feedback from patients, families and staff told us that families invariably end up separated when it comes to bereavement with family members each going to different services, organisations or counsellors for their bereavement support. Many families do not take up this bereavement support as it means telling their whole story again. Research also tells us that the most effective type of support is family therapy and there is none available free of charge in our area.

What is Family Therapy?

Family therapy looks at the family as a whole as well as the individual and is a proven route for support to the children.

The Forget Me Not Centre will provide a range of different therapies for children of different ages and families – we know that children have differing needs according to the developmental stage of their age group. These activities could include arts and crafts, outdoor activities, creative play and thinking, and more.

Who will the Forget Me Not Centre provide care for?

We will initially work with families who are known to St John’s because we are caring for a family member. We are engaging with families about the design and furnishings.
