Specialists in palliative care

Appeals

We depend on your donations to help us carry out our vital palliative care in the Hospice and in patient' homes.

Every year we launch appeals to support the care of patients and families because St John's Hospice is a charity. Around 30% of our funding is from the NHS, 70% comes from people like you in our community. St John’s Hospice does not charge for the care it gives. This means we need to raise £434 per hour to keep caring.

By taking part in a St John's Hospice appeal you are directly supporting specialist palliative care on the in-patient ward, the work of the community teams who work in patient homes and bereavement support for patients and their families. Thank you.

Taking part in an appeal is easy way to celebrate the ones you love, the community you live and work in, and raise vital funds to support patient and family care.Over the years we have carried out many different appeals to support care for palliative patients and their families, from the annual Light Up a Life appeal to annual flower appeals. Sometimes we also launch appeals for specific items e.g. to help open the new Forget Me not Centre in June 2022 we carried out an appeal to help fund items to support families through their bereavements.

Whenever and how you choose to give, we greatly appreciate your support for St John's and your community.

Light Up a Life

Every winter St John's Hospice holds our special Light Up a Life appeal so that you can honour someone special by dedicating a light on our tree for a donation to support palliative care.

Light Up a Life also sees free celebration events, which are open to everyone to join us for music and readings as we come together as Christmas approaches.

As Christmas approaches and we make plans to create new magical memories. While we celebrate all that is new, we understand the need for time to reflect and celebrate those who have impacted on our lives.

Whether you dedicate in memory of a loved one or want to thank and honour someone still in your life, you can dedicate a light on our Hospice tree.

In return for your donation, you will receive a personalised handwritten card with the name of the person you are honouring, to display in your home or to gift.

If you make your dedication online, you will have the option to upload a photograph of your loved one and a message to add to our Photo Wall. This is a wonderful way to make your dedication shine brighter and share with others in celebrating your loved one.

Flower Appeals

For the past two years we have launched a flower appeal: the sunflower appeal and the forget me not appeal. Each flower is £35 to buy and your stunning hand-crafted steel flower joins hundreds of others across two venues in Lancaster and South Lakeland in Summer. The bright and eye-catching installations are opened to the community to visit, photograph and enjoy.

Once the display finishes, each flower is boxed along with a dedication card, with a bespoke graphic design created by Bells Scambler. These are then available for you to take home for your own garden display or to gift on to a loved one.

After the summer display has closed these stunning flowers are available to purchase all year round. Outside of summer they   do not form part of the summer displays, yet they always provide a ray of colour and beauty in your own garden all year round!

We have a limited number of sunflowers and forget me not flowers available - simply telephone: 01524 382538 to purchase yours.

Thank you to everyone who has joined in these appeals to support St John’s Hospice and make a positive difference.
