Every year St John's runs a number of exciting challenges for Hospice supporters!

These are an opportunity to take on a challenge that to stretch yourself (a little or a lot depending on your fitness level) and raise much-needed funds for a valued local charity.

Treks

Join St John’s Hospice for a once in a lifetime trip to some of the world’s most amazing places! Since our first overseas trek in 2016, our intrepid explorers have raised over £300,000 for St John’s Hospice. Previous treks have included China, Nepal, the Sahara Dunes, Peru and Cambodia!

Skydive

Have you ever wondered what a skydive would be like? What it feels like to move through the air and see the world around you from a totally different view? Well now is your chance!

Every year we have two venues to choose from: skydive in the South Lakes or in North Lancashire: which venue will you pick? 

Since 2017 over 130 people have jumped for St John’s and raised over £55,000. So, to find out more and sign up to join this exclusive club of super skydivers simply email: [email protected]

Keswick to Barrow Walk

The Keswick 2 Barrow Walk takes place very year and is a firm favourite in the challenge calendar!

The date for 2024 is 11th May and gives you the opportunity to take part in an iconic walk whilst raising funds for St John's Hospice care for patients and their families a across North Lancashire, the South Lakes and parts of North Yorkshire!

You could be part of the St John’s Hospice teams joining one of two walks: Keswick to Barrow or Coniston to Barrow walks, with distances of 40 miles and 21 miles respectively. You will have a fantastic day; feel an incredible sense of achievement and be supported through the entire preparation process and on the day itself.

Great North Run

If you are a new or experienced runner, you will need no introduction to the Great North Run. This is the day where 60,000 determined and dedicated runners make the Great North Run the event it is, described as, "The World’s biggest and best half marathon – famous for its warm North East welcome, unbeatable atmosphere and the millions raised for good causes."

Every step you take could raise funds for palliative and end of life care in your community, supporting patients and families during one of the most difficult times they face. Now, there's a worthwhile challenge!

So, could you rise to this challenge and represent St John’s Hospice on this epic run? St John's is awarded a number of charity places every year. Please enter the St John's Charity Places ballot and you could join Team St John’s Hospice!

London to Paris Cycle

Yes, you read that correctly! We are holding our third London to Paris Cycle Event! This is an amazing challenge event for 2024 that sees you cycling from London to Paris (yes, in real-life, not virtually) whilst raising vital funds for St John's care of patients and families. Transport to and from London and an overnight stay prior to the start of the ride is also included!

We hold regular information evenings where you have the chance to find out more, chat to those who have done it previously and enjoy a brew and biscuits. There is no obligation to sign up on the night and if you do you will receive a free Hospice cycling top and a discount code for the sign-up fee!

The feedback from participants is truly incredible so if you want a genuinely amazing opportunity then this could be for you!

The Mud Run

May 14th is the day of the 2023 Mud Run. Take on this obstacle course on the stunning sands of Morecambe Bay for our second mud run. This is an event for all the family that takes you on a one-mile challenge through mud and sand for a fantastic finish. 

This exciting event is brought to you by St John’s Hospice & Morecambe Bay Sailing Club, our friends who support with our annual ‘Big Dip’. Registration opens at 10am and the mud run will start at 11am. There'll be male and female changing facilities in gazebos. Children aged 11years and older are welcome and must be accompanied by an adult (over 18).

Yorkshire Three Peaks with Adventure Trails 

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, usually in this order, and in under 12 hours. These peaks form part of the Pennine range and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks route is 24 miles (38.6km) and includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent. Yes, this is quite the challenge and it's one people return to year after year for the memorable experiences it brings. This next Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes place 18 June 2023.

If this feels like the right one for you it would be wonderful if you would walk the three peaks for St John's Hospice. By doing so you will be directly helping patients and families in your local area, in a community near you.

Cross Bay Walk

The Cross Bay Walk for St John’s Hospice returns! Walk the time-honoured route across the sands of Morecambe Bay to support St John’s Hospice and make memories you will treasure. 

Start time is scheduled to be 11am. Setting off from Arnside Promenade and arriving at Kent’s Bank, the walk is approximately 8.5 miles and takes around 3-4 hours. Please note the minimum recommended age for children is 11 years old if they are not used to strenuous walks. Well behaved dogs are welcome to accompany you, at a cost of £1 per dog. 🐾

Places are very limited and early booking is highly advisable to avoid disappointment: as soon as the dates are announced the tickets "fly out" so please register your place with us now! Simply contact: [email protected]
