Local businesses offer a ‘Thank You Brew’ to Hospice volunteers

To celebrate National Volunteers’ Week in the UK, St John’s Hospice has teamed up with almost 30 businesses in Garstang, Lancaster, Morecambe and Kendal to offer a ‘Thank You Brew’ to their dedicated army of volunteers.

The national awareness week, which runs from Thursday 1st June for a week, is organised by the NCVO (National Council for Voluntary Organisations). It celebrates the huge contribution made by millions of volunteers across the UK.

St John’s Hospice relies heavily on volunteers, as Assistant Volunteer Co-Ordinator, Carrie McIntosh explains, “we have in the region of 500 regular volunteers, who take on a variety of roles in and around the hospice and shops. From patient drivers to flower arrangers; fish tank maintenance to helping on the ward, the care and commitment that is shown is remarkable and helps keep the hospice running. We also have 10 shops across our region staffed mainly by volunteers. It isn’t an exaggeration to say that St John’s Hospice wouldn’t be here without our dedicated volunteers.”

“The ‘Thank You Brew’ initiative is our way of acknowledging that vital support and we are over the moon about how local businesses have been so keen to help. Hospice volunteers not only help us keep our costs down, but add a unique and special atmosphere to the place, helping us to continue to provide the specialist palliative care that our patients and their families need, when they need it.  We think they’re priceless.”

For a full list of businesses involved, see below. If you would like to volunteer for St John’s Hospice then get in touch HERE or call 01524 382538. St John’s also welcome groups of corporate volunteers who bring teams in for a day to help with jobs and maintenance. So far this year there have been groups from Network Rail, Hornby School, Scott Wilkinson Accountants, AXA , Lancaster and Morecambe college and UPP. These groups have carried out some really useful jobs from clearing shrub land, to cleaning windows and UPP helped with maintenance jobs in our shops. Call Carrie McIntosh on 01524 382538 if you would like your company to help out.
