Support our china trekkers!

The Great China Trek

17th to 27th September 2016

Our first ever overseas fundraising challenge, which is part of our 30th Anniversary celebrations, is to take a team of supporters to trek along a stretch of The Great Wall of China. They are aiming to raise in excess of £50,000 for the hospice by taking part in this event. The trip comprises a 10 day guided trek along The Wall organised exclusively for and on behalf of St John’s Hospice.

We have recruited 33 brave people to the team who are aiming to raise in excess of £50,000 for the hospice by completing this amazing trek. They have all been busy organising many lovely events to reach their personal fundraising goal, ranging from coffee mornings to fashion shows, bingo nights to soul nights, plus baking a Great Wall of China Cake. At the same time they have embarked on a fitness training plan to prepare for this challenge. Many of their events are on our events page here on this website so if you would like to attend any please take a few minutes to explore what is in the calendar for the next few months ahead.

Some of our colleagues are doing this trek – Elspeth Jones (Corporate Secretary), Dr. Phil Swarbrick (Medical Director) and our very own Chief Executive, Sue McGraw. Also some of our amazing volunteers are part of the team– Helen Bingley, Shirley Holland, Sheila Little, plus two of our Trustees, Caroline Redhead and Richard Taylor. If you want to support any one of them or show your support to a friend who is part of this team  please click HERE and type in their name.

Many of the team members have very personal reasons for completing this challenge, which are very inspirational.  We have a father and son doing it together and a mother and daughter and some people have joined up with a friend, but in the most part many of our trekkers are going “solo”. What a unique and exciting experience this is going to be for all of them. They will make lifelong friends and see one of the most stunning constructions ever built by man. We will keep you updated and will post photos of the trek upon their return when we will also announce how much they raised for St John’s Hospice.

Keep an eye on our Facebook page and website for updates about the China Trek team and what events they are holding to raise funds for the hospice.
