What is Hospice neighbours?
Our Hospice Neighbours scheme provides a great opportunity to make a real difference to the quality of life of others within their own community. Our Aim:-
- To give practical help or companionship to any person living with any life shortening condition within their own home.
- To provide support for carers enabling them to take regular short breaks.
Hospice Neighbours matches up clients with volunteers to visit the client’s home at pre-arranged times and assist with tasks such as picking up a prescription, walking the dog, letter writing or maybe do a bit of gardening. It could simply be companionship and taking the time to chat over a cup of tea or assist with hobbies.
How can you help?
Hospice Neighbours is currently operating in the Morecambe and Lancaster area and the South Lakes, and we are always in need of new volunteers. We are looking for friendly people, with good listening skills, who can work independently.
As a Hospice Neighbour you will be provided with full training and we will support you by providing robust guidelines and protocols. We will also hold regular group sessions and a forum for feedback and reflection. The Volunteer Co-ordinators will be on hand to offer advice and support to you in the role.
