The St John’s Hospice Gardens Need You!
St John’s Hospice’s gardens are a real source of pride for the Hospice. Their peaceful tranquillity are perfect for patients and their families to relax in, and the ever-changing views and the wildlife the garden attracts are exciting year-round. Not only that, but fruit and veg grown by our volunteer gardeners helps to feed patients, staff and, when the Courtyard Café is open, the public, delicious and nutritious fresh food. Fruit and veg as well as plants and flowers are also available form the Hospice in exchange for donations.
Become a St John’s Hospice Gardening Volunteer
We have two types of gardening volunteers – Grounds Gardeners and Market Gardeners.
Grounds Gardeners help to plan the gardens for the year ahead, keep the gardens looking tidy through regular maintenance and help make the gardens look spectacular all year by planting seasonal beds, among other things.
Market Gardeners will help to plan the propagation of flowers, plants and vegetables, contribute ideas and experience as we extend our vegetable garden and assist with harvesting the fruit and veg for the kitchen or for sale, among other things.
It is important that all of our garden volunteers have a good horticultural knowledge/experience of gardening, are friendly team players and are able to cope with the physical demands of the role.
Please fill in our Volunteer Application Form below if you would like to become a volunteer gardener at St John’s Hospice!
