We met up with Ryan and Daniel from Fitness Formation to chat about their awesome fundraising and find out what drives them to support us! Fitness Formation is a small local gym that was only set up less than five years ago. Within their first year they had already started to support St John’s Hospice, due to very personal reasons. They have also won the prestigious title of Lancaster Guardian Gym of the Year 3 times!
Then four years ago a ground-breaking idea was born. The aim was lofty and the concept pretty frightening. Ryan and Dan were to attempt to build the largest team ever assembled to tackle an obstacle race in the United Kingdom, in order to raise as much money as possible for St John’s……
On Saturday 4th April 2015, it all began with a sea of blue. Over 300 people stood shoulder-to-shoulder on the start line of Born Survivor, a 10km military style obstacle race set in the grounds of Lowther Castle, Lake District. In the years that have followed, nearly 200 more people have joined the ranks of the Born Heroes and conquered the event. Many of the Fitness Formation members have also taken on swimming, cycling, ironman and running challenges too!
In that time, they have helped to raise well over £120,000 for St John’s Hospice Lancaster.
To put that sum in perspective, it could fuel our Hospice at Home cars for 1 million miles, allowing our nursing team reach all corners of our large community to provide care for people with life shortening illnesses, within the comfort of their own homes. Equivalent to 40 times around the world!!
It was so lovely to meet up with the “driving force” that has been behind all this fundraising and to say thank you. We would also like to thank each and every one who has either been part of the team or supported them in many different ways. This is such a phenomenal achievement and still they continue to support St John’s.
Watch the interview below for some really interesting background to the fantastic fundraising effort, and to hear about what’s next for Fitness Formation!
