St John’s Hospice charity golf day raises more than £14,500
St John’s Hospice has held its annual charity golf day, raising more than £14,500. More than 120 players took to the course at Windermere in fine conditions, in support of the charity, which serves patients across North Lancashire and the South Lakes. The event has become renowned for its ‘quirky style’, with an ice cream van in situ on the fairways (courtesy of ‘Josephs’) and afternoon tea and cocktails served at the halfway house by St Johns’ volunteers, and mixed by Simon Thomas & Adam Thorpe of Slate Bar.
The combined efforts of the raffle and auction contributed towards the tremendous sum raised, with prizes donated by Emirates, who gave two airline tickets to Dubai. Other prizes up for grabs were special golf experiences at Loch Lomond and Archerfield and lunch for two at Simon Rogan’s Cartmel restaurant, L’Enclume with accompanying chauffeur, donated by Lakeland Chauffeurs, with match funding provided by Barclays and Yorkshire Bank. Following a sumptuous three course dinner, a video production of the day was played by ‘Tee Video’.
“Once again, we have received incredible support for this event and are delighted that the local community have come together to raise such a magnificent sum for the hospice.” said community fundraiser, Jill Santamera. “We try and make the event unique each year and the most important factor is having fun! I would like to thank the many volunteers who were so brilliant on the day, and all those who were generous enough to sponsor holes and donate prizes.”
