Lancaster Folk Singaround Club Mini Folk & Maritime Festival
October 11 @ 12:00 pm - October 14 @ 12:00 pm BSTFree
During the Lancaster Music Festival, Lancaster Folk Singaround Club has organised a Mini Folk and Maritime Festival at the Robert Gillow Pub, Market Street Lancaster. See Facebook/Lancasterfolksingaround for details.
Through out the festival there is an opportunity to donate to St John’s Hospice. I decided to do this on behalf of Sally Anderson who received such wonderful support from the Hospice which enabled her to go home to live out the rest of her life with family and friends. Sally passed away on September 6th surrounded by her family and close friends.
Each day there is a workshop, two of which are sponsored by FolkusFolkus, the Folk Arts Network of the North West, and music sessions interspersed with performances by local performers. Each day ends with a Late Late Open session hosted by the Lancaster Folk Sing Around Club. On Sunday evening there is the Micro Maritime Fest.
The Mini Folk Fest opens on Friday with the Folk O’Lune Ceilihd band, followed by a Folkus Ukulele workshop led by Ben Farmer. During the day there are performances by Chris Ball, by the Folk Duo Tom Perry and Clive Brooks, and by Back o’th Bush. The evening has a Folk Smorgasbord providing short performance slots for local performers.
Saturday opens with talented singer and guitarist Paddy Morton, to be followed by Dandelion Train. Today there is a Folkus Flute and Whistle Workshop led by award winning Irish flute and whistle player and teacher Bev Whelan followed by Bev’s slow irish session. As well as Paddy and Dandelion Train we have Close Quarters, FeeFeeMoyMoy and Tom Perry with Clive Brooks. The evening is filled with an Open Session hosted by Close Quarters.
Sunday opens with local singer song writer Don Harding and followed by Dandelion Train. Today there is a 5 String Banjo Workshop for beginners led by Roger Barkworth followed by an open music session led by Tinder Box and the Mini Folk Fest finishes with Close Quarters. This sees the start of the Micro Maritime Fest.
The Micro Maritime Fest opens with a Sea Shanty Workshop led by the local shanty group The Mizzen Crew aimed at giving the background to a range of shanties. This is followed by a Songs of the Sea sessions hosted by The Mizzen Crew with performances from All @ Sea; Lytham St Annes Shanty Crew and the Sunderland Point Shanty Crew.
