Skydive – FAQs
- What is a tandem skydive?
A tandem skydive involves being connected to a BPA (British Parachute Association) qualified instructor through the use of a harness. The instructor will be in charge throughout the whole decent from getting ready through to landing. You require no previous experience and will be given a safety briefing on the day of the jump.
You’ll be able to experience the 120mph rush for approximately 30 seconds once you and your instructor have left the aircraft. Your instructor will then deploy your parachute, where you will experience the peace and quiet whilst gliding slowly back down to ground.
- How high do I jump from?
The standard jump height is from 11,000 feet. For an additional price Black Knights can take you up to 15,000 feet. You can discuss this with them on the day.
- How much will it cost?
A £50 deposit is payable on booking. This will be refunded once the jump is complete and a minimum of £395 is paid in sponsor money. You can choose to fund or part fund the jump yourself and raise a lower amount if you wish. For example: Pay £150 yourself and raise the remaining £245 in sponsorship.
At least £395 must be paid in order to jump. You can pay and fundraise any combination, as long as the minimum of £395 is paid by the day of the jump.
By raising £395 in sponsorship, you can have your deposit back which means you can do the jump for free!
- When is the jump?
The date set for the jump is Saturday 24th March 2018. If the weather isn’t suitable to jump, we will have a back up date, to be confirmed nearer the time. If you want to take part please make sure you keep both dates free.
- Where is the jump?
Black Knights Parachute Centre. Post code LA2 0DY. Please remember to put the space in between the postcode when using Sat Nav or you may end up somewhere in the Lake District.
- First steps
Book your jump by paying your £50 deposit below. We will then send you a welcome email and a link to set up an online fundraising page. We can also make paper sponsor forms available.
- Is there a weight limit?
WITH SKYDIVING, WEIGHT IS ESSENTIAL
Nobody likes to talk about their weight, but with skydiving, it is essential for you and your instructors safety that we have to work within certain parameters. The maximum allowable weight is 13 stone for females and 15 stone for males, but Body Mass Index (BMI) will also be taken into account. We appreciate that some people will fall outside of these limits, but are still fit and active, so if this is the case, please call the office to discuss your individual requirements. Likewise, if you meet the age criteria but you are under 9 stone, you need to contact the office at Black Knights to discuss. It doesn’t mean you can’t jump, but call them to chat about it.
Please don’t be offended when you are weighed on the day. It is a requirement of all jumpers, and you will be asked to step on the scales prior to jumping.
All jumpers will have to complete a form declaring themselves fit for jumping. You can view the form HERE, but you will be able to complete this on the day. If you are unsure whether you are fit to jump, call Black Knights for advice.
- How old do I need to be?
You will need to be at least 16 years old and have your parent or legal guardian’s permission until age 18.
- What shall I wear?
Comfortable clothes are a must. Especially warm clothes if you’re jumping outside of the summer months. Trainers are also a must – preferably lace up to keep them secure.
We’ll supply you with a jumpsuit, goggles, gloves and a leather hat for your tandem skydive to protect you and your clothing during your jump.
- Can I wear glasses?
Yes you can – you will be given goggles to wear over the top of your glasses.
- Can I wear contact lenses?
Yes you can – you must tell us if you plan to wear contacts on the day as you will not be able to remove your goggles once your parachute has opened. It is often the case that goggles can be removed whilst gliding back down to earth.
- Can friends and family come with me?
It’s great if you can bring friends and family along to support you, but please advise them that this is an all-day event.
There is an onsite café… The Knights Table offers a variety of food, snacks and drink at very reasonable prices. There is also a grassed area and picnic benches in the spectators area, from where you can watch other jumpers whilst you wait for your turn.
Fully supervised children are welcome but the airfield is strictly no dogs at any time.
