Jump for St John’s – Cockerham

April 17

Join us on Sunday 17th April with Black Knights Parachuting Club in Cockerham, to see views of north Lancashire.

Are there any restrictions such as weight, age or medical conditions?

We know most people don’t like to talk about their weight, but with skydiving it is essential for both you and your instructor’s safety that we have to work within certain parameters.

For full terms & conditions, please click here.

Some people will fall outside of these limits, but are still fit and active, so if this is the case, please do call the office or Black Knights to discuss your individual requirements.

It is a requirement of all jumpers that you will be required to hop on the scales prior to jumping so please don’t be offended when you are weighed on the day.

You will be required to fill in a consent form online in advance of the day, otherwise you will not be allowed to Jump.

The minimum age is 16. Anyone under 18 must have parental consent.

People who have suffered from any of the medical conditions listed on the relevant declaration form, must be certified as fit to skydive and have a BPA form signed by their GP. If you are unsure please call Black Knights for advice.

Who are Black Knights?

The Black Knights Parachute Centre has been operating for over 50 years making it the longest running centre in the country. With thousands of skydives under their belt you couldn’t be in safer hands for this once in a lifetime experience.

What is a tandem skydive?

A tandem skydive involves being connected to a BPA (British Parachute Association) qualified instructor through the use of a harness.  The instructor will be in charge throughout the whole descent from getting ready through to landing.  You require no previous experience and will be given a safety briefing on the day of the jump.

You’ll be able to experience the 120mph rush for approximately 30 seconds once you and your instructor have left the aircraft.  Your instructor will then deploy your parachute, where you will experience the peace and quiet whilst gliding slowly back down to ground.

How high do I jump from?

The standard jump height is from 11,000 feet. For an additional price Black Knights can take you up to 15,000 feet. You can arrange this with them on the day.

How much will it cost?

A £50 deposit is payable on booking.  This will be refunded once the jump is complete and a minimum of £395 is paid in sponsor money. You can choose to fund or part fund the jump yourself and raise a lower amount if you wish. For example:  Pay £150 yourself and raise the remaining £245 in sponsorship.

How much must I fundraise?

At least £395 must be paid in order to jump. You can pay and fundraise any combination, as long as the minimum of £395 is paid by the day of the jump.

By raising £395 in sponsorship, you can have your deposit back which means you can do the jump for free!

When is the jump?

The date set for the jump is Sunday 17th April 2022 where you will check in at the parachute centre to then receive training before waiting for the perfect weather conditions for Jumping out of a plane!! If we know in advance that the weather isn’t suitable to jump, we will have a backup date, to be confirmed nearer the time.

How long will I be there for?

Skydiving is an all-day event. Due to weather conditions and how busy we are on the day, we cannot predict an accurate time for your jump. You must expect to spend the whole day with us to complete your jump.

Weather Forecast

Generally speaking the weather conditions have to be pretty good. This means only little cloud, because it’s important you can see the ground beneath you so that you know where you are in the sky and light winds so that your parachute can manoeuvre easily.

Check the forecast over our Drop Zone using our handy Dropzone Weather Checker

Where is the jump?

Black Knights Parachute Centre. Post code LA2 0DY.  Please remember to put the space in between the postcode when using Sat Nav or you may end up somewhere in the Lake District!

On the Day

What shall I wear?

All specialist equipment such as helmet, goggles and jumpsuit will be provided. Goggles will fit over glasses and contact lenses are fine. Please wear comfortable clothes, wrap up warm if jumping outside of the summer months, on a hot day t-shirt and trousers/shorts are fine, please wear good fitting trainers.

Can friends and family come with me?

It’s great if you can bring friends and family along to support you, but please advise them that this is an all-day event.

What facilities are there on site?

There is an onsite café. The Knights Table offers a variety of food, snacks and drink at very reasonable prices.  There is also a grassed area and picnic benches in the spectator’s area, from where you can watch other jumpers whilst you wait for your turn.

Fully supervised children are welcome but the airfield is strictly no dogs at any time.

And of course, there are toilet facilities too.

Can I use my own camera/go-pro?

Sorry no, the BPA rules do not allow anyone to wear any camera equipment, either on the skydiver’s helmet or anywhere else, until you have undertaken 200 skydives.

However Black Knights can video your skydive for you. The cost for video and stills is £120. You get your own personal camera man to video your experience and give you anything from 80 to 120 high quality images. You also get to leave with it on the day just half an hour after you land.

St John’s Hospice & Black Knights Parachute Centre take health & Safety very seriously and will follow the current government covid guidelines at the time. In the unfortunate event that it has to be cancelled your deposit will be moved to another date, unfortunately there will be no refunds.
