A generous donation from a patient’s family coincided with a gift from a local business, meaning St John’s Hospice has all the blankets it could ever need to see their patients on the ward warm through winter.
The patient’s family, who want to remain anonymous, wanted to do something to help, so secretly bought 12 luxurious fleece blankets, suitable for Hospice patients, and surprised the staff with the gift.
Meanwhile, a Kendal business wanted to support their local Hospice, and also bought some of the same special blankets for the ward! Yorkshire Building Society Agency in Kendal supplied 10 of the ‘teddy-bear’ blankets, meaning there are now enough for each bed on the ward, plus extra for visitors or when a blanket needs washing.
Maddy Bass, director of nursing at St John’s Hospice, said “Being comfortable, warm and cosy is a priority for everyone, and these two generous donations will really help with that. The blankets are so soft, they will be really cosy for our patients, who can have sore or irritated skin.
“It is wonderful that there are people in our community who provide us with such generous support – whether an individual or a company, we can always feel the love and support of the people around us. Thank you to the Yorkshire Building Society Agency and to our patient’s family for helping us to help our patients.”
