Help St John’s Hospice get a Christmas Number 1!

As part of Choirs With Purpose, the St John’s Hospice choir has been involved in recording a single that is hoping to top the Christmas charts! We need your help by buying it!

The single, We All Stand Together featuring Michelle McManus, was released on Friday 24th November. It is the first song from the album Stand Together by Choirs With Purpose, which is being released on 15th December.

The aim of ‘Choirs With Purpose’ is to shine a light – and ideally raise funds – for ten important causes which would benefit from significant public awareness. One of those causes is Hospice UK, the umbrella charity for hospice care in the UK, and St John’s Hospice sent 21 of their singers to record 2 songs as part of the larger project including 45 hospice choirs from all over the UK.

The project, which has the backing of many famous names, including Sir Paul McCartney, will culminate in an album release, hoping to be the Christmas number one.

Joanna Jeffreys is the Finance Officer at St John’s Hospice, and also leads the hospice choir, “We are very excited to be part of a huge venture where all voices are singing together all over the UK. Singing in the choir makes people feel good and it is a great way of relaxing and feeling part of a team.  Our local choir is made up of staff, volunteers and supporters of the hospice who meet for rehearsal every Thursday at St John’s. We can’t wait to see if we can reach number one, what a story that would be!”

The ‘Choirs With Purpose’ album will be released on 15th December with all proceeds being split between 10 worthy causes, including Hospice UK, of which St John’s Hospice will get a share. You can order the album NOW by clicking HERE. You can still buy the single HERE.

McCartney has given it his backing and has waived all royalties on his song which also features the German Film Orchestra, Babelsberg and violin by BBC Young Musician 2014 William Dutton. All profits from the single and album will be divided equally between the choirs’ associated charities.

Michelle said, “This is an incredible project and one with which I am very proud to be involved. We are living in a turbulent time, where building communities, hope and solidarity is so important, and what better way to do that than through song? The lyrics of We All Stand Together will resonate with so many in 2017.

“I’m passionate about choirs having always sung in them, and hearing the stories from the singers in the Choirs with Purpose is truly humbling. Each one has a message and a commitment to share this Christmas.”

Each of the twelve choirs featured on the album have recorded a cover song which encapsulates their message on album and collectively the 1600 singers who have been recorded at various locations for We All Stand Together.

The project has been put together by James Hawkins Music, the team behind the Missing People Choir, who are responsible for setting up many of the individual choirs on the album.

Producer James Hawkins said, “Michelle is a powerhouse and leads our epic choir with both strength and sensitivity. We are very proud of everyone who has taken part of the track and hope that everyone who hears it will download the album and help get our important message up the charts this Christmas.”
