Over £7,000 raised in Darren Wilkinson Memorial Cricket Match

By Danielle Beck

On Saturday 22nd April 2017, people came together to participate in a charity cricket match held in memory of Darren Wilkinson, who sadly passed away aged 49 from cancer.

All money raised was in aid of St Johns Hospice, who provided excellent care for Darren and his family. The amount raised is £7,311.82 through donations, the Just Giving page and the amazing raffle prizes which were so kindly donated by both businesses and individuals.

The event was organised by The Lancaster Moor Hospital Cricket team and their family members, who Darren previously played for. Several matches were played on Bare and Westgate Cricket Club grounds, whose facilities and willingness to support the event were second to none. Bare and Westgate Clubs kindly provided an idyllic setting for the event offering great facilities which is a real asset to the community.

A huge thank you is in order to all those who played in the cricket knockout competition, and congratulations to the winning team Westgate Cricket Club who beat the Moor Misfits in the final game. On the day of the event, Darren’s wife Debra and daughter Lauren participated in the matches, but unfortunately Darren’s son Scott was unable to make it. It goes without saying that Darren would have been extremely proud of his family and everyone involved. It has been lovely to see something so wonderful come from something so tragic. Darren will always be in our thoughts and very sadly missed.
