Becoming a hospice Volunteer

Without our faithful army of over 400 volunteers we simply wouldn’t exist. We are always looking for new passionate and hard working people to join our team. From ad hoc help at events, to regular weekly hours, from gardening and maintenance to admin, fundraising and helping with patients, we have a role to suit everyone. Please get in touch for an informal obligation free chat.

All you need is enthusiasm and a desire to help

St John’s Hospice relies on over 450 people who give their services for free and contribute, directly or indirectly, to the care and support of patients and their loved ones. There is a huge range of activities that volunteers are involved with, both at the hospice and within our local shops. You don’t need any special skills, but we will be happy to use any that you do have! All you need is enthusiasm and a desire to help.

We asked these wonderful volunteers what motivates them to give their time to St John’s:-

“My husband was very well looked after by the nurses so this is my ‘thank you’, and I really enjoy what I do. I like meeting the general public and doing something that I know is worthwhile, and there is no doubt about this being worthwhile. It feels wonderful to contribute in a small way to the overall running of the hospice and be able to give something back.” – Margaret, Volunteer Receptionist and Gardener

“I thoroughly enjoy volunteering and have done so for the last 9 years. I help in our Day Hospice making refreshments for the patients. It isn’t much, but if it helps, then I am contributing in my small way. The patients are so grateful and a pleasure to get to know.” – Glenys, a volunteer in our Day Hospice

“I was looking to do something with my time and chose St John’s Hospice because of the care and attention my relative had received when she was here. I wanted to give something back. It’s a wonderful place; really warm and friendly.”  – Kay, Volunteer Receptionist

We are always recruiting for new roles, could you fill one of them?
