Training for your walk

Whether you are taking on the 14k or 25k challenge this year, preparation is key to making sure you not only have a great night and support your local charity, but also feel great and get fit at the same time.

Make sure you are wearing a comfortable pair of training shoes that are designed for long distance walking, and if they are new, wear them in to stop them rubbing and creating blisters.

Aim to start training a few of months before the event, whether it is by walking to work rather than taking the car, cycling, or taking a gym class. The fitter you are, the better you will feel all round, and the easier the walk will be for you on the night.

This year, to help you with your training, we will be holding a number of Zumba exercise classes at the hospice in the few weeks leading up to the event on the following days:
Mon 21st @ 7:30pm
Mon 28th @ 7:30pm
Mon 4th June @ 7:30pm
Mon 11th June @7:30pm

Limited spaces available. Call 01524 382538 to book your place. Zumba courtesy of Jade Taylor - website here:

Did you know?...

...If you totalled up all the miles the ladies walked in the 14k and the 25k, you'd have
covered the equivalent of walking from the hospice to Australia!

...By doing the 14k walk alone you can burn around 180 calories per mile
- that's 1620 calories in total! Not bad for a night's work!

How you did it last year...

"I have done this walk for the last three years with family and friends and it is BRILLIANT...we have had such a great time and its such a great charity...I have been training now up and down the prom either walking or biking, it’s going to be a challenge doing 15 miles but looking forward to having a great night with some great ladies..."
- Dawn from Morecambe
