Education Aims
Who do we teach?
We offer a wealth of experience in teaching Palliative care. This includes working with Care Homes, Hospital nurses, Community Nurses, Domiciliary care providers, Schools and colleges, Medical Student and Dr Groups, Allied Healthcare professionals and the public.
What do we teach?
A four day course of Foundations in Palliative care. This course is aimed at Staff in Care Homes and Domiciliary Carers and will give them a good foundation in understanding palliative care. This includes the Introduction to what is Palliative Care, Communication skills, Symptom Management and Bereavement.
Palliative care courses. We offer between one hour teaching to full days on most aspects of Palliative care. This can include, Symptom Management, Spiritual Care, End of life Tools including the Liverpool Care Pathway and Advance Care Planning and the Preferred Priorities of Care Document. We also offer Verification of Death Training. Individual specifically adapted Study days are available at the hospice and within the community. There is a Palliative Link Nurse Programme is a system that has been in operations for 7 years now. There is a Palliative Link Nurse on each ward in University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay (UHMB) and Community District Nurse Bases across Morecambe Bay who value this specialist training. Along with the Macmillan Nurse Services the Hospice Co-ordinates these Informative study days. They are held twice per year.
Jenny is Qualified in SAGE & THYME™ Communication skills training. At present the courses are being delivered at University of Central Lancashire. These are Level 1 Communication skills’ training that in the 3 hour workshop covers the skills needed to assist with the emotional concerns of patients or their caregivers.

Gold Standard Framework Care Home (GSFCH)
The GSFCH training programme is a three stage quality assurance programme (How It Works) that enables care homes to provide quality care for all residents nearing the end of life. We support Care Homes undergoing the current GSFCH Programme. Within Lancaster and Morecambe there are 6 Care Homes undergoing or have completed this 18 month course.

Six Step Programme for Care Homes
The six step programme is being developed in the north west of England. This programme is to develop care home staff in Lancaster and Morecambe in excellent End of Life care. Currently we have 24 homes that are undergoing this 10 month programme.
